“A Decomposition Approach for Rigorous Treatment of Uncertainty in Manufacturing and Design.”
The goal of this diagram was to portray visually the “accumulative effects of uncertainty factors” in the new materials nanotechnology area. For the scientists, their goal was to create an approach that integrates manufacturing and design process of nano-structured materials into a seamless framework — an approach that allowed for interdependency and treating rigorously “uncertainty” due to material properties and manufacturing imperfections.
